Details

This new strategy document supplements the British Antarctic Territory’s (BAT’s) existing Heritage Strategy. It sets out:

  • the Territory’s policy on protecting the UK’s Antarctic underwater heritage
  • the methods for doing this
  • clear future actions for the government and its stakeholders

The BAT Administration is grateful for the efforts of the organisations that drafted this strategy on our behalf:

  • the Marine Archeological Sea Trust

  • Plymouth University Law School

  • Bournemouth University

This strategy is published to coincide with the start of the Weddell Sea Expedition, which aims to discover Sir Ernest Shackleton’s iconic lost ship, the Endurance.
