Details of the application

British Pipeline Agency Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from underground strata comprising of Alluvium and River Terrace Deposits at Waltham Abbey, Essex at National Grid References TL 37615 02638 and TL 37701 02604 and discharge it to the River Lea at National Grid Reference TL 37674 02648 via a lined settlement lagoon.   

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 12 cubic metres an hour
  • 250 cubic metres a day
  • 22,500 cubic metres a year

Abstraction will take place for the purpose of dewatering groundwater.

The duration of the proposed works is up to four months during 2024.
