In 2019 HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) commissioned Kantar (Public Division) to conduct qualitative research to explore business taxpayers’ views towards several concepts which might form part of a future single, financial account.
At the time this research was conducted, the Single Financial Account was the overarching term used by HMRC to cover some new concepts and features being explored for taxpayers. Much of this work is now being delivered as part of the HMRC’s broader modernisation plans, set out in the government’s plan to build a trusted, modern tax administration system Building a trusted, modern tax administration system.
In particular, the Single Customer Account, which will provide a single point through which taxpayers can interact with HMRC, and continuing developments to Real Time Information and Timely Payments, which aims to provide taxpayers with more up to date information about their tax affairs. The results from this research have been used to inform the work taking place in these areas.
The research consisted of 42 in-depth interviews and 4 focus groups with business taxpayers.
