Details
The government has invested more than £75 million to investigate and progress the construction of schemes across Calderdale after the December 2015 flooding that affected 3,500 homes and businesses.
Since January 2016, the Environment Agency, on behalf of the Calderdale Flood Partnership, has worked with Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council and the community to produce a flood action plan for Calderdale.
There has also been input from key partners such as Yorkshire Water, the Canal & River Trust, Northern Power Grid and local community groups.
The action plan sets out:
- what action has already been taken since the flooding
- further actions planned over the next few years
It also includes longer term actions to reduce the risk of flooding through:
- strengthening defences
- improving community resilience
- using existing water assets improving infrastructure
- using natural flood measures
The flood action plan is a living document that will be discussed, monitored and updated by the Calderdale Flood Partnership. The current plan is the third time the plan has been revised and updated by partners since its original launch in 2016. All members of the partnership are committed to its delivery and want an action plan that is available to everyone. The plan sets out a clear vision to inspire and encourage communities and organisations to work together to reduce the impact of future flooding.
Appendix 1 shows all the changes made to the revised plan.
Appendix 2 shows actions which are ongoing or business as usual actions.
Appendix 3 shows archived actions which were completed by July 2017 and September 2018 (the dates of the first and second updates of the plan).
