Canal and River Trust: application made to abstract water

Canal and River Trust has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a licence to abstract water from the River Goyt at National Grid Reference (NGR) SK 01186 81723 and transfer into the Peak Forest Canal at NGR SK 01177 81700 without intervening use.
The application is to abstract water as follows:
- 833 cubic metres an hour
- 20,000 cubic metres a day
- 7,300,000 cubic metres a year
- At an instantaneous rate not exceeding 231 litres per second.
Abstraction will take place all year.
The abstraction from the River Goyt will be supported by transfer of water from Combs Reservoir into the Randall Carr.
The purpose of this transfer will be to maintain water levels within the Peak Forest Canal for navigation.
The proposal lies within the Goyt catchment and the Upper Mersey Abstraction Licensing Strategy area.
