Published 21 July 2022
Applies to England
Details of the application
Canal and River Trust has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is to vary impounding works that are currently authorised under section 25(5) of the Water Resources Act 1991 and the Peak Forest Canal Act 1794 and which obstructs or impedes the flow of Todd Brook at Toddbrook Reservoir, Whaley Bridge at National Grid References SK 00760 81231, SK 00636 81142, SK 00838 80962 and SK 00920 81021.
Water will be obstructed or impeded to allow the construction of a new spillway to complete restoration of the reservoir. You can find more information on the ‘Restoring Toddbrook Reservoir’ project through the Trust’s website: https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/about-us/where-we-work/north-west/restoring-toddbrook-reservoir
The existing auxiliary spillway will be decommissioned and the crest level built up to the same height as the dam. The current primary spillway to the North of the reservoir will be redesigned, increasing the weir breadth. A second stage will be built 340mm higher to take higher flood flows.
