Healthcare professionals can use the tool to explore the relationship between spending on cardiovascular disease care and local clinical outcomes for patients. This can help with planning and commissioning local services.

The tool uses a range of CVD spending measures, such as programme budget spend for coronary heart disease. The tool compares these to the outcomes for each clinical commissioning group (CCG) area.

The tool uses data from the Health and Social Care Information Centre (now NHS Digital) to calculate costs. Outcomes data are from the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) and hospital statistics for CVD admissions.

The tool includes guidance for users.
