The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from Argent Energy (UK) Limited.

This site produces biodiesel from waste fats, oils and greases (FOG) and is permitted for the following scheduled activities:
- Section 4.1 Part A(1) (a) (ii) Producing organic chemicals containing oxygen
- Section 5.4 Part A(1) (b) (i) Disposal, recovery or a mix of disposal and recovery of non-hazardous waste with a capacity exceeding 75 tonnes per day involving biological treatment
This variation application is to:
- Add a new esterification process, which will be permitted as another Section 4.1 Part A(1) (a) (ii) scheduled activity.
- Increase throughput and waste input limits.
- Change the fuel type for the boilers from refinery gas to natural gas.
- Add a pre-treatment facility which uses a mechanical process to remove FOG from wastewater.
- Add boiler fuel oil storage tanks.
- Update the permitted emission points to reflect current operations, including the addition of points relating to odour and dust abatement.
- Use spot sampling as opposed to composite sampling for monitoring emissions to sewer.
