The Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (DHRI) closure, and its successor, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme

The domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (DRHI) scheme closed to new applications at midnight on 31 March 2022.
The new Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) will continue to support the deployment of low carbon heat technologies once it launches. It will pay an upfront grant to help consumers with the high upfront cost of purchasing and installing a low carbon heating system.
Ofgem is the administrator for both schemes.
If you are planning to install a low carbon heating system in March 2022
If you are planning to install a low carbon heating system in March, and need to decide which scheme to apply for, you should:
- read the guidance and eligibility criteria for both schemes
- discuss the timeline of the installation and commissioning of your low carbon heating system with your installer to help you make an informed choice
To have applied for the DRHI, your installation needed to have been commissioned and completed before 1 April, and applications submitted before 1 April:
If you decide to apply to the BUS scheme, your installation must be commissioned on or after 1 April, and you need to submit the application once the scheme has launched. To find more information on the scheme:
