The Focus on Enforcement project asks the public to help identify where regulation can be improved, reduced or done differently.

This paper summarises the initial findings of the Focus on Enforcement review of the early years childcare sector. The aim of the report is not to make specific recommendations for reform but to identify the consequences of current enforcement practice.

The review looked at regulation in relation to:

  • childminders
  • nurseries
  • pre-schools for children in the early years age group (birth to 5 years old)
