This paper examines the effects of the policy intentions set out by the government in Childhood obesity: a plan for action, chapter 2 on people with protected characteristics.

This is in accordance with our duties under the Equality Act 2010.

  1. Figure 1 on page 7 has been updated to reflect that the prevalence of obesity is 17.7% in white British children in year 6. Paragraphs 3.4 and 3.5 on page 4 have been updated to correct errors in the obesity prevalence figures for girls in year 6 and adults of different ages.

  2. Evidence added in footnote 9 to support point 3.10 about the statistically significant impact on children's food preferences and consumption that advertising high fat, salt and sugar foods has. Presentational changes made to other footnotes.
