The following amendments have been made to the guidance:

  • clarified that agencies can request adaptations to the registration process due to a protected characteristic, or any reasonable adjustments due to a disability
  • updated to include a new childcare provider type, ‘childminders without domestic premises’, following changes introduced by the Department for Education’s EYFS framework

November 2023

Updated following new regulations which mean any childcare provider registered with a childminder agency at the time of its closure will automatically be registered with Ofsted.

July 2021

Added ‘Known to Ofsted’ form for agencies to use when considering an application for registration from a childminder.

June 2021

The guidance document has been updated to make the requirements for registration clearer for the applicant. The guidance is now published in HTML to meet accessibility requirements. The outcome of the registration visit is no longer decided at the registration visit, and normally within a week after this takes place. The guidance includes information and a link to the new data notification survey for childminder agencies.
