Cross Government Gender Network

Updated 11 November 2024

The Cross Government Gender Network (CGGN) is a Civil Service wide forum made up of gender related staff networks working towards advancing gender equality and parity in the Civil Service, partner organisations and its arms-length bodies. The network exists to elevate the experiences of work, career, and personal development to enable staff to thrive and fulfil their potential in the workplace.

Aims

The Cross-Government Gender Network (CGGN) aims to:

  • Connect individuals of all gender identities across the Civil Service and allies to share experiences, provide support and opportunities, promote equity and engage on gender diversity issues that impact the workplace.

We will do this by:

  • Convening diverse voices and perspectives and leveraging this expertise to enhance gender diversity in the Civil Service.
  • Creating pathways to opportunity, broadening representation and participation across the Civil Service and its professions.
  • Cultivating inclusive cultures and ways of working.
  • Advising the leadership of the Civil Service on issues and policies addressing gender equality, diversity and parity.
  • Using data and evidence to develop tangible interventions, to create a more inclusive, brilliant Civil Service.

Membership

CGGN is a community for civil servants from central government departments, agencies, and their associated public bodies including arm’s length bodies who have a positive interest in driving forward gender equality within the Civil Service. We welcome women, men, intersex, transgender colleagues, and non-binary people to join the Network. We support leads of gender-related staff networks as well as civil servants with an interest in gender related issues.

CGGN Steering Committee

The CGGN is led by committed members of the community who want to take an active leadership role in progressing a gender inclusive environment within the Civil Service. The steering committee led by the Networks Co-chairs is responsible for carrying out the Network’s aims with the help of network members and their local networks. They are also responsible for supporting other steering group members from the wider Civil Service community, regardless of their main responsibility.

Meetings

We hold regular monthly member’s meetings to bring the community together to discuss
