Parking restrictions, bus lane use and certain other moving traffic contraventions are increasingly being enforced by local traffic authorities who have sought and been granted civil enforcement powers.
The introduction of new charging arrangements at the Dartford Thurrock River Crossing by the UK Highways Agency (the Dart Charge scheme) in 2014 was the first scheme to use powers to enforce a road user charge, provided under the Transport Act 2000.
