Effluent types
(1) An admixture of site drainage, having received pH adjustment and settlement and secondary treated sewage effluent.
(2) Effluent from a treatment plant processing drainage from radiological controlled areas. The treatment includes pH adjustment, filtration and ion exchange.
Volume
(1) 130 cubic metres per day in dry weather
(2) 40 cubic metres a day
The application is to vary the existing permission which allows the two effluents to be discharged to the estuary in admixture through the site’s former large cooling water pipe. The applicant is requesting that the permit allow a change to new outlet pipes at the same location when the cooling water pipe silts up. This would entail the two discharges being emitted separately.
