The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is the UK’s lead competition and consumer authority.
The CMA is taking a new approach to its Annual Plan this year. In a change from the past, we are setting out the 2023 to 2024 Annual Plan in two time horizons: our ambition and medium-term priorities for the next 3 years, and the key areas on which the CMA intends to focus in the next 12 months.
We first set out the CMA’s purpose – to help people, businesses and the UK economy by promoting competitive markets and tackling unfair behaviour – and how this purpose shapes our ambition. Second, we explain our ambition in terms of the outcomes we want to help deliver over the medium and long-term:
-
people can be confident they are getting great choices and fair deals
-
competitive, fair-dealing businesses can innovate and thrive
-
the whole UK economy can grow productively and sustainably.
Third, our Annual Plan then goes on to set out our medium-term priorities for the next three years and our specific areas of focus for 2023 to 2024.
