The CMA’s annual report and accounts sets out the department’s performance, achievements, and accounts from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021. It highlights the wide range of competition and consumer work that the CMA has carried out in the past year.

The highlights include:

  • The CMA’s response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic - as a direct result of the CMA’s investigations, customers have been able to obtain hundreds of millions of pounds in refunds for events and holidays that were cancelled due to the pandemic.

  • The CMA’s new powers – the CMA has assumed new responsibilities investigating more global cartel, antitrust and merger cases; setting up the Digital Markets Unit; establishing the Office for the Internal Market; and working with partner agencies across the world.

  • The CMA’s impact assessment for 2020/21 has also been published. For every £1 we spent on our operating costs the average benefit to customers over the last 3 years was £25.
