Introduction

1. Introduction

The Chair welcomed the Board members to the meeting.

Minutes

The Board approved the minutes from the meeting of the Board on 19 April 2023, with no changes. The Board acknowledged the committee minutes received.

Major developments in the external environment in which we operate

2. CEO and Chair comments

The Board was updated on current external engagements, including the CMA’s appearance before the Business and Trade Committee, and the CMA’s recent announcements. The Chair and CEO thanked staff from across the CMA for their support around these engagements.

Strategy, Policy, Portfolio and Risk Management

3. CEO update

The CEO updated the Board on recent developments in the CMA. The Board reviewed the corporate risk register and the external guidance tracker.

4. RPPC update

The Board was updated on and considered the outcomes of the May Resources, Portfolio and Pipeline meeting.

5. Annual Report and Accounts 2022 to 2023

The Board reviewed the draft report, suggesting a restructure and an updated narrative for the Chair and CEO’s forewords and the wider report. The Board noted that the Report will be sent offline for further review, prior to formal sign-off at the CMA’s June Board meeting.

6. DMCC Bill:

  • DMU update

The Board discussed the passage of the DMCC Bill through parliament, and guided the team on the associated management.

  • consumer reform update

The Board evaluated and provided perspectives on the preparations for the consumer admin model, including any new decision-making model.

The Board concluded these two discussions by giving the team steers on external comms. It thanked the teams.

7. Subsidy Advice Unit update

The Board welcomed an update on the work of the SAU, now it is formally up and running. It commented on the challenges which may arise and provided a steer on how best to manage the first SAU Annual Report.

8. Improving the impact of CMA recommendations

The Board discussed the plans for increasing the impact of any recommendations to government from the CMA’s work and supported the team’s work on these proposals.
