CoRWM provides independent scrutiny and advice to the UK government on the long-term management of higher activity radioactive wastes. CoRWM is a non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

The framework document has been drawn up by BEIS and the devolved administrations in consultation with CoRWM. It replaces CoRWM’s terms of reference. The document sets out the broad framework within which CoRWM will operate and covers the following areas:

• role
• governance and accountability
• working arrangements
