Interministerial Group for Transport Matters Communiqué: 24 May 2023

The Interministerial Group for Transport met on 24 May 2023 by video conference. The meeting was chaired by Lee Waters MS, Deputy Minister for Climate Change.
The attending ministers were from the:
- UK Government: Richard Holden MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State Roads and Local Transport
- Scottish Government: Kevin Stewart MSP, Minister for Transport and Patrick Harvie MSP, Minister for Zero Carbon Buildings, Active Travel and Tenants’ Rights
- Northern Ireland Executive: Julie Harrison, Permanent Secretary for the Department for Infrastructure (observer)
The chair welcomed all attendees to the meeting.
The discussions focused on matters surrounding the collection and sharing of UK-wide data and the active travel agenda.
Those present detailed the approaches their respective governments are taking in relation to the 2 agenda items and identified areas in which further work could be undertaken to share knowledge, experience and good practice.
The discussions covered topics including:
- sharing data
- open data opportunities
- lessons from Active Travel England, the Welsh Government’s simple Zebra Crossings trial and the Scottish Government’s pavement parking regime
- micromobility
- skills, capability, behaviour change and messaging in relation to active travel
- the Levelling Up Fund
Ministers welcomed their respective governments continuing to collaborate where possible and agreed that officials should work together to explore the areas that would most benefit from such intergovernmental working.
