Inter-Ministerial Group for Housing, Communities and Local Government communiqué: 24 May 2022

The Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) for Housing, Communities and Local Government met on Tuesday 24th May by video conference.
The meeting was chaired by the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and Minister for Intergovernmental Relations.
The attending ministers were: From the UK Government: the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Rt Hon Michael Gove MP; the Minister for Levelling Up, the Constitution and the Union, Neil O’Brien MP; the Minister for Building Safety and Fire, Lord Greenhalgh.
From the Scottish Government: the Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Housing and Local Government, Shona Robison MSP; the Minister for Social Security and Local Government, Ben Macpherson MSP.
From the Welsh Government: the Minister for Finance and Local Government, Rebecca Evans MS; the Minister for Climate Change, Julie James MS.
From the Northern Ireland Executive: the Minister for Communities, Deirdre Hargey MLA, the Minister of Finance, Conor Murphy MLA.
The Chair opened the meeting by welcoming attendees to the inaugural meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Group. The Group discussed their future ways of working, based on the agreed outcomes of the Review of Intergovernmental Relations, agreed to meet quarterly and that the Welsh Government would host the next meeting. Future items for discussions may include homelessness, communities programme, regeneration, or upcoming bills. The Group then discussed respective approaches to Building Safety.
