Updated 22 September 2023
The inaugural Home Office Interministerial Group (IMG) for Safety, Security and Migration met via videoconference on 1 February 2023.
The meeting was chaired by the Home Secretary, Rt Hon Suella Braverman KC MP and attended by Minister for Social Justice, Jane Hutt MS (Welsh government) and Minister for Culture, Europe and International Development, Neil Gray MSP (Scottish government).
In the absence of ministers in the Northern Ireland Executive (NI), Jayne Brady, Head of the NI Civil Service attended the meeting in an observational capacity.
The Home Secretary set out this was a good opportunity to work together and engage in meaningful dialogue on the common themes of keeping our citizens safe, building on the great work already taking place, and learn from the devolved government’s and their experiences.
For the inaugural IMG, ministers engaged in dialogue across the 3 core themes of the group; safety, security and migration, in which they agreed the importance of the IMG in promoting closer relations and effective cooperation, including the opportunity to share learning and good practice to help address areas of shared interest.
