Community engagement and consultation can help to improve the way that changes to a road layout, town or city centre are introduced. It enables people to have their say and make sure transport projects support local people and businesses.

This guide aims to help people involved in the delivery of major transport teams to:

  • include community engagement within transport projects, specifically with a focus on active travel
  • set out best practice and case studies for both engagement and consultation
  • follow a step-by-step process to include communities in their projects
