Community Engagement Fund 2023 to 2024: grant-funded projects

1. Citizen Outreach Coalition (COC), Liverpool

The project will target Nigerian, Ghanaian, Pakistani, Indian, and Bangladeshi community organisations across Merseyside through community awareness events, videos, and social media messaging on Windrush Schemes.

2. African Health Policy Network (AHPN), London

The project will focus on the Ghanaian and Nigerian communities including others of diverse West African descent in 6 London Boroughs, working with African led churches and pastors. The project will utilise a combination of in-person presentation and discussion and video presentation and information dissemination on both Windrush Schemes.

3. Nigerian Schools Foundation, London

The project is dedicated to connecting the Nigerian community in London. The project will achieve their goals by carrying out needs assessments and workshops, then create publicity materials and organise events on both Windrush Schemes.

4. Impact4Life Wellbeing CIC, Birmingham

The project will focus on Nigerians, Ghanaians, Bangladeshis, Pakistanis, and Indians from their local community through working with grassroot partners to deliver an intensive online Windrush awareness campaign and hold indoor and outdoor events alongside their partner organisations.

5. Young Manchester, Manchester

The project will organise four community events run in collaboration with local community groups and networks: a Windrush 75 Celebration Event; Young Manchester Member Day; and two drop-ins at meetings of the Manchester Supplementary School Network.  The project will support other not-for-profit groups and charities serving children and young people in Manchester.

6. Peterborough Asylum and Refugee Community Association (PARCA), Peterborough

The project will create multilingual materials and resources on both Windrush Schemes; organise five public community outreach events; create a social media campaign; and provide one to one follow up advice and signposting / referrals.

7. University of Leicester, Law School, Leicester

The project will target the following nationality groups: Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ghana, and India through holding information and awareness events on both Windrush Schemes. The project will utilise students to develop their professional skills.

8. Together In Action Trust (TIA), Coventry

The project will organise an event raising awareness of both Windrush Schemes and provide training which will be focused to people from South Asian backgrounds.

9. Mojatu Foundation, Nottingham

The project will deliver awareness through multimedia campaign and awareness-raising sessions focused on people of West African heritage. Campaign will include informative article and to be published online with podcast miniseries.

10. Echoes of Hope, London

The project will run a series of live music events reaching out to residents of Nigerian and Ghanaian descent and other Commonwealth countries in helping to raise awareness of both Windrush Schemes.

The project will create and deliver a celebration and awareness-raising event on both Windrush Schemes and support the work of key volunteer advocates supporting Windrush Compensation potential applicants.

The project will address women of all ethnicities and backgrounds to support eligible individuals to apply for the Windrush Documentation and Compensation schemes.

13. Sian Computers Community Initiative CIC, Wolverhampton

The project will run “the Windrush Experience Campaign” across local venues and will be visiting and distributing leaflets to Ethnic Minority and Commonwealth communities as well as devise a questionnaire and running a radio campaign. Project have experience of creating innovation through technology products and services.

The project will reach and engage with communities not previously prioritised through a range of engagement events: workshops; surveys; and radio programmes.

15. Ultra Education, London

The project aims to support and empower underrepresented and minority communities across London.  The project will deliver 3-day Windrush Awareness & Youth Business pop-ups.

16. The New Black Film Collective, London

The project will host a season of free cinema screenings focusing on the Windrush scandal, showcasing both contemporary films about the Windrush generation and older classics made by the Windrush generation themselves. After each screening there will a panel talk to educate and raise awareness of both Windrush Schemes. The focus will be on Caribbean heritage as well as those from other affected communities, including South Asian and African communities.
