CICAIR complaints protocol

Details

Use this protocol to understand how complaints brought against approved inspectors are considered.

Only breaches of the code of conduct are considered. Other complaints are out of scope, such as those based on a:

  • building regulation technical assessment
  • misunderstanding or dissatisfaction with the minimum standard set by the building regulations
  • criticism of the quality of workmanship

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is the designated body to approve inspectors in England and Wales from 5 April 2024, replacing the Construction Industry Council Approved Inspectors Register (CICAIR). This designation ends on 1 October 2024.

All references in the documents to CICAIR should be read as HSE.
