This economic impact assessment looks at how circuit breakers can be implemented and the resulting influence on market outcomes. These price-triggered measures allow a cool down period and a batching of trades that can mitigate the problems of rapidly falling prices and large price swings.

This impact assessment was commissioned as part of the Foresight project on the future of computer trading.
