Council of the Nations and Regions: Inaugural meeting on 11 October 2024

The inaugural Council of the Nations and Regions met on 11 October 2024 in Edinburgh.
In attendance from the UK Government were the Prime Minister, the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and the Minister of State for Investment.
From the Devolved Governments, the First Minister of Scotland, the First Minister of Wales, and the First Minister and deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland attended.
Attending from the regions were the Mayors of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, the East Midlands, Greater Manchester, the Liverpool City Region, London, the North East, South Yorkshire, Tees Valley, the West Midlands, the West of England, and York and North Yorkshire. Apologies were received from the Deputy Prime Minister and the Mayor of West Yorkshire.
Council members discussed opportunities for attracting long-term inward investment ahead of the International Investment Summit 2024 taking place on 14 October. The UK Government also gave an update on Invest 2035: The UK’s Modern Industrial Strategy. Council members confirmed their commitment to working together to leverage maximum investment to all parts of the nations and regions and support economic growth.
The Council will reconvene in Spring 2025.
