Decision made by the Charity Commission on 26 July 2007.
The commission considered an application from the Countryside Alliance Foundation for registration as a charity. The organisation was set up as a charitable arm of the campaigning organisation, the Countryside Alliance. The commission concluded that with amended objects in the organisation’s governing document, and assurances that the charity would be independent of the campaigning body, the Countryside Alliance Foundation could be registered as a charity.
This decision is significant because of the link with a campaigning organisation and the possibility of benefit to private commercial interests.
