The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 introduced new duties on Tier 1 councils in England to provide support for victims of domestic abuse and their children in safe accommodation.

Implementation of these new duties is being overseen by a ministerial chaired Domestic Abuse Safe Accommodation National Expert Steering Group, chaired by the Domestic Abuse Commissioner.

The National Expert Steering Group’s annual progress report highlights the achievements and challenges faced in first year of the delivery of the safe accommodation-based support duties. The report includes outcomes from the local authority data collection and best practice case studies.
