This report is part of a series of annual reports and accounts which present the government’s outtput and planned expenditure for 2011 to 2012. It includes a statement of internal controls and a summary of the main changes and challenges in the year.

The entities within the departmental boundary that make up these financial statements are the core Department for Education, Sure Start, Early Years and Childcare and the department’s advisory non-departmental public bodies (NDPBs).

The executive NDPBs have their own accounting officers who are responsible to Parliament for the funds they receive and publish their own accounts separately.
