Details

Until the Winter 2022 wave, the Public Attitudes Tracker (PAT) was conducted by the former Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. From Spring 2023 onwards, following departmental restructuring, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) is now responsible for the PAT.

The survey covers public attitudes, awareness and behaviours relating to policies under the remit of DESNZ (and formerly BEIS) such as energy, climate change and consumer issues. Verian, formerly Kantar Public, an independent research organisation, has been commissioned to conduct this survey.

The survey began in March 2012 and runs 4 times a year. The survey will now run 3 times a year following consultation with users over Summer 2023. A new methodology was adopted from Autumn 2021 onwards. The methodology is described in detail in this Technical Report, together with key survey metrics for the Autumn 2022 to Summer 2023 waves.

If you have questions about the methodology, please contact us at PAT@energysecurity.gov.uk.
