National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) – non-executive directors and Audit and Risk Assurance Committee chair
Dr Mark Chakravarty, Jackie Fielding, Professor Bee Wee and Dr Justin Whatling have been re-appointed as non-executive directors of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). Alina Lourie has also been re-appointed as Chair of the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee (ARAC).
Dr Chakravarty and Dr Whatling have been re-appointed for a further 4 years from 1 April 2025, Alina Lourie and Jackie Fielding for a further 3 years from 1 April 2025 and Professor Wee for a further 3 years from 1 December 2024.
The appointments will involve a time commitment of 2 to 3 days per month. Remuneration for the roles will be at a rate of £7,883 per annum and £13,137 per annum for the ARAC chair.
These appointments are made in accordance with the Cabinet Office Code of Governance for Public Appointments. The regulation of public appointments against the requirements of this code is carried out by the Commissioner for Public Appointments.

Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration - member
Dr Raj Patel has been re-appointed as a member of the Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration for a further 3 years from 1 August 2025.
The appointment will continue to involve a time commitment of approximately 15 meetings per year. Remuneration for the role will be at a rate of £300 per day for the preparation and attendance at meetings.
This appointment is made in accordance with the Cabinet Office Code of Governance for Public Appointments. The regulation of public appointments against the requirements of this code is carried out by the Commissioner for Public Appointments.

NHS Blood and Transplant - chair, non-executive director, and Audit and Risk Committee chair
Peter Wyman has been re-appointed as Chair of NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) for 3 years from 1 April 2025. The appointment will continue to involve a time commitment of 2 to 3 days per week and remuneration of £63,000 per year.
Professor Charles Craddock has been re-appointed as a non-executive director of NHSBT for 3 years from 1 June 2025. This appointment will continue to involve a time commitment of 2 to 3 days per month. Remuneration will be at a rate of £7,883 per year.
In addition, Ian Murphy has been appointed as the Audit and Risk Committee (ARC) Chair of NHSBT from 18 February 2025 to 28 February 2027. This appointment will involve a time commitment of 2 to 3 days per month. Remuneration will be at a rate of £13,137 per year.

Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency - chair
Anthony Harnden has been appointed Chair of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency for 3 years from 1 January 2025.
The appointment will involve a time commitment of 2 to 3 days per week. Remuneration for the role will be at a rate of £63,000 per year.

DHSC Departmental Board - lead non-executive member
Alan Milburn has been appointed lead non-executive member to the board of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).
Members provide independent advice and expertise to inform the department’s strategy, performance and governance. The lead non-executive member provides additional support to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care in his role as chair of the board.
As a former Secretary of State, Alan brings experience at the highest levels of helping transform the health and care system.
The appointment was made in compliance with the Cabinet Office Code of Governance for Public Appointments. Due to the requirements of the role and the unique expertise and experience Alan Milburn brings, and following consultation with the Commissioner for Public Appointments, the appointment was made directly from 8 November 2024 for a term of 3 years. As standard, the role is remunerated at a rate of £20,000 a year for a time commitment of 2 to 3 days per month.
In line with the governance code, political activity is not a bar to appointment but political activity during the last 5 years should be declared. Alan Milburn is a member of the Labour Party.
Food Standards Agency - chair
Susan Jebb has been re-appointed as chair of the Food Standards Agency for 3 years from 1 January 2025 until 31 December 2027.
The appointment will continue to involve a time commitment of 2.5 to 3 days per week. Remuneration for the role will continue to be at a rate of £70,000 per year.

Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority - members
Tom Fowler, Rosamund Scott, Anya Sizer and Stephen Troup have been appointed as members to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) for 3 years from 14 October 2024.
Zeynep Gurtin, Alex Kafetz, Alison McTavish and Geeta Nargund have been re-appointed as members to the HFEA for a further 3 years from 1 April 2025; and Frances Flinter and the Right Reverend Graham James from 1 May 2025.
HFEA members Jonathan Herring and Gudrun Moore were re-appointed for a short period from 18 July 2024 to 13 October 2024, until the new appointees could take up their roles.
The appointments will involve a time commitment of 3 days per month. Remuneration for the roles will be at a rate of £7,883 per year.
These appointments are made in accordance with the Cabinet Office Code of Governance for Public Appointments. The regulation of public appointments against the requirements of this code is carried out by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. In line with the governance code, the department notified the Commissioner for Public Appointments on the short re-appointments of Jonathan Herring and Gudrun Moore prior to this announcement.

Mark Cheetham has been appointed as a member of the Independent Reconfiguration Panel for 4 years from 1 November 2024 to 31 October 2028.

The appointment will involve a time commitment of 33 days per year. Remuneration for the role will be at a rate of £500 for preparation and attendance at meetings.

Pay review bodies - members and interim chair
Stephen Boyle has been re-appointed as a member of the NHS Pay Review Body (NHSPRB) for 3 years from 1 August 2024. Following consultation with the Commissioner for Public Appointments, his direct appointment as the interim chair of the NHSPRB will continue until 31 July 2025 or until a new chair is appointed, whichever is sooner. The role is remunerated at a rate of £350 per day and for a time commitment of around 15 days per year.
Karen Mumford has been re-appointed as a member of the NHSPRB for 2 years from 1 October 2024.
Janette McCormick has been appointed as a new member of the Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration (DDRB) for 3 years from 1 October 2024. Melanie Jones has been re-appointed as a member for 3 years from 1 August 2024. John Matheson’s appointment as a member has been extended for 12 months from 1 September 2024.
