NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) - chair

Sue Douthwaite has been re-appointed as Chair of the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) for 3 years from 1 April 2025.

The appointment will involve a time commitment of 2 to 3 days per week. Remuneration for the role will be at a rate of £63,000 per annum.

This appointment is made in accordance with the Cabinet Office Code of Governance for Public Appointments. The regulation of public appointments against the requirements of this code is carried out by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. 

The appointment is made on merit and political activity played no part in the decision process. However, in accordance with the code, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Sue Douthwaite has not declared any political activity.

Commission on Human Medicines - chair

Professor Sir Munir Pirmohamed has been re-appointed as Chair of the Commission on Human Medicines (CHM) for 4 years from 12 February 2025.

The appointment will involve a time commitment of 33 days per year. Remuneration for the role will be at a rate of £500 for preparation and attendance at meetings.

This appointment is made in accordance with the Cabinet Office Code of Governance for Public Appointments. The regulation of public appointments against the requirements of this code is carried out by the Commissioner for Public Appointments.

The appointment is made on merit and political activity played no part in the decision process. However, in accordance with the code, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Sir Munir has not declared any political activity.

Pay review bodies - members and interim chair

Stephen Boyle has been re-appointed as a member of the NHS Pay Review Body (NHSPRB) for 3 years from 1 August 2024. Following consultation with the Commissioner for Public Appointments, his direct appointment as the interim chair of the NHSPRB will continue until 31 July 2025 or until a new chair is appointed, whichever is sooner. The role is remunerated at a rate of £350 per day and for a time commitment of around 15 days per year.

Karen Mumford has been re-appointed as a member of the NHSPRB for 2 years from 1 October 2024.

Janette McCormick has been appointed as a new member of the Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration (DDRB) for 3 years from 1 October 2024. Melanie Jones has been re-appointed as a member for 3 years from 1 August 2024. John Matheson’s appointment as a member has been extended for 12 months from 1 September 2024.

Members are remunerated at a rate of £300 per day for a time commitment of around 15 days per year.

These appointments were made on merit and political activity played no part in the decision process. However, in accordance with the Cabinet Office Governance Code on Public Appointments, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity to be made public. All appointees have not declared any political activity.

NHS Counter Fraud Authority - chair

The appointment of Tom Taylor as Chair of the NHS Counter Fraud Authority (NHSCFA) has been extended from 1 July 2024 until 31 December 2024, or until a new chair is appointed, whichever is sooner.

The appointment will continue to involve a time commitment of 2 to 3 days per month. Remuneration for the role will continue at a rate of £14,450 per annum.

This appointment is made in accordance with the Cabinet Office Code of Governance for Public Appointments. The regulation of public appointments against the requirements of this code is carried out by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. 

The appointment is made on merit and political activity played no part in the decision process. However, in accordance with the code, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Tom Taylor has not declared any political activity.

British Pharmacopoeia Commission - members

Doctors Emre Amirak, Paul Marshall and Vikas Jaitely have been re-appointed as members of the British Pharmacopoeia Commission (BPC) from 22 June 2024:

  • Dr Marshall and Dr Jaitely for 4 years
  • Dr Amirak for 1 year

The appointments will involve a time commitment of approximately 3 meetings per year. Remuneration for the roles will be at a rate of £325 per meeting.

These appointments are made in accordance with the Cabinet Office Code of Governance for Public Appointments. The regulation of public appointments against the requirements of this code is carried out by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. 

The appointments are made on merit and political activity played no part in the decision process. However, in accordance with the code, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Doctors Amirak, Marshall and Jaitely have not declared any political activity.

Office for Strategic Coordination of Health Research - chair

The Rt Hon Professor Lord Kakkar has been re-appointed as Chair of the Office for Strategic Coordination of Health Research (OSCHR) for 3 years from 11 October 2024.

The appointment will involve a time commitment of 20 days per year. Remuneration for the role is set at a rate of £7,000 per year. Lord Kakkar has confirmed that he does not intend to take the remuneration. 

This appointment is made in accordance with the Cabinet Office Governance Code on Public Appointments. The regulation of public appointments against the requirements of this code is carried out by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. 

The appointment is made on merit and political activity played no part in the decision process. However, in accordance with the code, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Lord Kakkar has not declared any political activity.

Commission on Human Medicines - commissioners

Professor Marc Turner, Professor Christopher Weir and Professor Poulam Patel have been reappointed as commissioners of the Commission on Human Medicines (CHM):

  • Professor Turner and Professor Weir for a further 4 years from 5 July 2024
  • Professor Patel for a further 2 years from 5 July 2024

The appointments will involve a time commitment of approximately 22 days per year including 11 meetings. Remuneration for the roles will be at a rate of £325 per meeting.

These appointments are made in accordance with the Cabinet Office Code of Governance for Public Appointments. The regulation of public appointments against the requirements of this code is carried out by the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
