Ofsted inspected the Isle of Wight’s child protection services on 26 November 2012. The resulting report, published on 15 January 2013, judged the council as ‘inadequate’ overall. In response, ministers issued a statutory direction on 6 June 2013 which includes a requirement for the council to establish a strategic partnership with Hampshire County council.
An update to the direction issued on 28 November 2016 reflected the agreed position between the Isle of Wight and Hampshire councils.
The 5-year statutory direction ended on 5 June 2018.
