About the table references

The table reference numbers changed in January 2025 when the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) took on responsibility for publishing all driving test, theory test and driving instructor statistics.

The table references are now made up of a series of letters and numbers.

The first 3 letters show whether the table is about:

• driving tests or theory tests (DRT)
• instructor registers (INS)

The 3 digits that follow tables prefixed with DRT show:

• the test category (for example, car)
• the test type (for example, theory)
• the coverage of the data (for example, national)

There is then a final letter to help differentiate each file.

Examples

In table DRT122A, the first digit is 1 (car), the second digit is 2 (practical), and the third digit is 2 (test centre). This means the table is about practical car driving tests at test centre level.

In table DRT411A, the first digit is 4 (PCV), the second digit is 1 (theory), and the third digit is 1 (national). This means the table is about PCV theory tests at national level.
