East Herts District Council has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the River Stort at Grange Paddocks, Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire at National Grid Reference TL 48876 21914.
Water was originally obstructed or impeded to maintain water levels to a nearby telemetry station which is no longer used.
Further details are: This licence will authorise the removal of the existing weir to enable the free movement of fish species upstream and downstream of the location and for the restoration of natural chalk river habitat. Impoundments constructed without a licence before 2006 are exempt from licensing, however, there must be one in place prior to the removal of a structure to condition those works appropriately.
