Details of the application

Eastern Quarry Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number SO/040/0001/062 to abstract water from underground strata comprising chalk at Whitecliffe at National Grid Reference (NGR) TQ 58986 73885 for the purpose of transferring it without intervening use to the River Thames at NGR TQ 59544 75546.

The variation applied for is to increase the amount of water to be abstracted from:

  • 720 cubic metres per hour
  • 10,080 cubic metres per day
  • 828,767 cubic metres per year
  • at an instantaneous rate not exceeding 200 litres per second

To:

  • 1,163 cubic metres an hour
  • 27,908 cubic metres a day
  • 10,186,128 cubic metres a year
  • at an instantaneous rate not exceeding 323 litres per second.

The variation applied for also includes changing the discharge point from NGR TQ 60114 76091 to TQ 59544 75546.

Further details are: The abstraction will take place all year round for 24 hours per day for the purpose of dewatering two lakes to allow for backfilling and earthworks to make way for a proposed housing development.
