Trade secrets are a preferred means of protection for innovative firms. Global legal and economic trends suggest that growth in the use of trade secrets is outpacing that of patents. Little is understood about trade secrets and their impact on the economy.

Findings and opinions are those of the researchers, not necessarily the views of the IPO or the Government.
