Published 12 May 2016
1. Action: colleges directly enrolling 14 to 16-year-olds for the first time
Colleges considering the direct enrolment of 14 to 16-year-olds for the first time in the 2016 to 2017 academic year are advised to read the programme requirements and advice, and submit their expressions of interest by 30 June 2016.
The programme eligibility requirements for the 2016 to 2017 academic year remain unchanged.
Any expressions of interest in 2016 to 2017 delivery from colleges will be considered on a case by case basis, and should be submitted via our online contact form.
2. Information: area review - VAT reclaim information
The government will make funding available from the restructuring facility to reimburse those colleges that face a VAT charge due to a change of ownership of a premise, which was previously zero-rated.
This will be available where the premise will continue to be used for educational purposes following a merger or a successful application to become an academy, following the area review process.
Area review guidance and becoming an academy guidance will be updated shortly. This will give further details on the terms and conditions and how further education colleges and sixth form colleges can reclaim VAT.
