Research background
The Department for Work and Pensions aim is to deliver on improving people’s day to day lives and help them build financial resilience and a more secure and prosperous future. Therefore, it is in the Department’s interests to better determine the costs and benefits of contracting out employment services and health assessments. In addition, the existing research does not allow full insight into why contracted services may or may not perform well, or whether there is a difference that comes from context and contract design.
Research value
This research helped the department to understand the nuances surrounding optimising contract design, and allows commissioners to better understand the dependencies and trade-offs associated with contract design and make better informed choices that suit their needs.
