Details

The Transmission Acceleration Action Plan is the government’s response to the report from Electricity Networks Commissioner Nick Winser CBE, published in August 2023.

It responds to 43 recommendations across 8 themes:

  • strategic spatial planning
  • design standards
  • regulatory approval
  • planning approval
  • supply chain and skills
  • communities and engagement
  • outage planning
  • end-to-end process and next steps

The government accepts the Commissioner’s recommendations in all areas, and in some cases seeks to go further.

The Action Plan seeks to halve the end-to-end build time of electricity transmission network infrastructure, from 14 to 7 years.

We published this alongside the Electricity networks: connections action plan.
