Community funds are monetary and non-monetary benefits provided by developers.

The funds might provide support for:

  • projects that enhance the local economy, society, and environment
  • community priorities such as local tourism, education, and skills development opportunities

This document provides a set of common principles which government expects communities and developers to be guided by when setting up community funds. It aims to provide flexibility for developers to deliver community funds in a way that best suits the community’s needs and priorities, and covers:

  • which infrastructure is in scope of the policy
  • the levels of funding per infrastructure type
  • how delivery costs are to be treated
  • how costs are to be recovered
  • government expectations for how both communities and developers should engage in the process
