2016/17 national tariff proposals: how you can get involved

Updated 19 November 2015

Applies to England

1. Statutory consultation on the national tariff: take action

Monitor and NHS England’s statutory consultation on the national tariff, publishing in the new year, offers organisations the chance to respond to - and either formally accept or reject - the proposals.

If a sufficient number of rejections are received then the tariff will not be published.

Every commissioner and all providers delivering nationally priced NHS services are eligible to submit a response.

Nominate a representative to respond to the statutory consultation

Prior to the consultation launching we need to identify an authorised responder for each commissioner and eligible provider organisations. This person will be sent a copy of the consultation and will be the only person who is able to respond on behalf of their organisation, this includes registering their trust’s acceptance or rejection of the tariff proposals.

We’ve sent emails asking providers and commissioners to confirm their authorised responder. Please ensure your organisation responds as soon as possible so that we can update our records.

If you haven’t received an email from Monitor, or have any questions about the process, please email j.denson@monitor.gov.uk.

2. Read the proposals

3. Share your views

We have an online response form to accompany our mental health proposals. You have until 5pm on Thursday 19 November to share any feedback.

You can also email any feedback to pricing@monitor.gov.uk.

4. Webinars

Top-up payments for specialised services (watch again)

We outline our proposed policies in more detail. We also discuss why specialised services are treated differently in the NHS payment system.

Best practice tariffs explained (watch again)

We outlined the basic principles of BPTs - how they are constructed and operate, and explained the rationale for amending the methods of price calculation for 2016/17.

Price modelling: From reference costs to tariff prices (watch again)

Find out how the annual reference costs submitted are changed into tariff prices. We explain how we calculate tariff prices, look at what steps we take to clean the data, and outline the review process.

Please note that this does not include information on tariffs currently in development – it is an overview of the current process.
