Selecting and auditing vessels
Updated 12 March 2020
The UK has selected random vessels in line with the risks identified in the engine power sampling plan. This is to make sure of engine power consistency using all the information available on technical characteristics of the vessels involved.
The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) may also inspect other vessels in line with its common enforcement powers.
An audit will look at the vessel’s licence, Certificate of Registry and other related documents. These may include:
- vessel monitoring system records
- the fishing logbook (electronic or paper)
- the Engine International Air Pollution Prevention Certificate issued for the engine – see Annex VI to the Marpol 73/78 Convention
- class certificates issued by a recognised ship inspection and survey organisation within the meaning of Directive 94/57/EC
- the sea trial certificate, if available
- the Community Fishing Fleet Register
- any other documents providing relevant information on vessel power or any related technical characteristics
The MMO will review any suitable documents at the time of the audit. The MMO, as part of this process, may communicate with owners/nominees to request further information in order to clarify documentary details.
