Details
On 25 July 2016, Natural England submitted a report to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs setting out the proposals for improved access to the coast between Gretna and Allonby, Cumbria.
The independent planning inspector appointed by the Secretary of State (‘the appointed person’) is minded to determine that these proposals do not strike a fair balance in respect to objections received concerning land at:
- Angerton House Farm
- North View Farm, Beaumont
- Raby Grange
- Longcroft Farm
- Arlosh House
- Beck Brow Marsh
- Burgh Marsh
- Eden Bank Farm, Beaumont
- land adjacent to River Wampool and Angerton Marsh
Hearing
The inspector decided to hold a hearing to explore further the following issues:
- flooding of areas of salt marsh and consequent dangers to walkers
- impacts of proposed route on farming practices, including safety issues
- disturbance of wintering and / or breeding birds
- possible alternative routes
The hearing was held in December 2017.
The planning inspector will now make a report and recommendation about the objections to the Secretary of State. He will take these into account when he decides whether to approve Natural England’s coastal access report for this stretch of the coast.
