This prison service instruction (PSI) describes how prisons should work to ensure fair and equal treatment of all prisoners and visitors, by:
- working to prevent discrimination on the grounds of characteristics such as age, disability, gender, race, religion and sexual orientation
- actively promoting equality
- investigating and dealing with instances of discrimination when they arise
It includes guidance on legal obligations as well as the requirement for monitoring, reporting and producing equality impact assessments.
