Environment Agency apprenticeships 2017 to 2018
Updated 28 September 2020
Environment Agency target
The Environment Agency is committed to supporting the government’s agenda of creating 3 million apprenticeships by 2020/2021. We have full regard to the target to provide an average of 2.3% new apprentice starts from April 2017 to March 2021.
The Environment Agency achieved 131 (1.3%) ‘apprentice starts’ from 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2018.
Apprenticeships standards and skills
The Environment Agency is predominantly a technical organisation which limits the use of approved apprenticeship standards.
Our strategic approach is to develop new apprenticeship standards aligned with our skills requirements. The Environment Agency expects to see a return on its investment through this approach from 2019 onwards.
Opportunities for apprenticeships
We are fully committed to offer meaningful, high quality, suitable apprenticeships. These will develop skills and help us meet our business needs and organisational outcomes.
We continue to assess where apprenticeships can:
- support our approach to our strategic workforce planning
- develop talent and potential
- enhance and improve diversity, inclusivity and employee retention
- enhance and improve our resourcing strategy
