Environment Agency apprenticeships 2018 to 2019

1. Environment Agency target
The Environment Agency is committed to supporting the government’s agenda of creating 3 million apprenticeships by 2020/2021. We have full regard to the target to provide an average of 2.3% new apprentice starts from April 2017 to March 2021.
2. Apprenticeships standards and skills
Our strategic approach is to:
- align apprenticeships to our workforce planning
- explore the development of new apprenticeship standards that support our future skills requirements
As a predominantly technical organisation we have utilised relevant approved apprenticeships for our employees. These support:
- our business needs for technical and general skills
- the development of our people
3. Opportunities for apprenticeships
We are fully committed to offer meaningful, high quality, suitable apprenticeships. These will help us deliver our business needs and organisational outcomes.
Our apprenticeship offer is capability led with due regards to the public sector apprenticeship target.
We continue to assess where apprenticeships can:
- support our approach to our strategic workforce planning
- develop talent and potential
- enhance and improve diversity, inclusivity and employee retention
- enhance and improve our resourcing strategy and resilience
4. Our data publication (1 April 2018 to 31 March 2019)
The Environment Agency is required to publish the following data:

Public bodies are also required to provide two percentages to give context to the other figures. These percentages do not reflect the progress a public body has made towards the target.
