Environment Agency has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a new full abstraction licence to abstract (take) water from underground strata (chalk) at Pound Lane and Firview Close, Marlow, Buckinghamshire at National Grid References (NGRs): SU 84209 85822, SU 84264 85851, SU 84302 85866, SU 84358 85902, SU 84525 86089, SU 84575 86111, SU 84612 86121, SU 84635 86126, SU 85692 86204, SU 85762 86236, SU 85801 86261, SU 85840 86279, SU 85876 86287, SU 85920 86339, SU 85789 86174, and SU 85909 86222 for the purpose of testing and maintaining pumps used for flood alleviation.
The individual pumps in the sixteen boreholes require a once per month 15-minute test to ensure they operate effectively when required to reduce the risk of groundwater flooding to Marlow. Each pump has a maximum pump rate of 30 litres per second.
The applied for abstraction quantities are
- 432 cubic metres per hour
- 432 cubic metres per day
- 5,184 cubic metres per year
- at a maximum instantaneous rate of 480 litres per second.
Abstracted test water will be discharged to drains and ditches at National Grid References: SU 84208 85815, SU 84262 85843, SU 84303 85859, SU 84367 85889, SU 84488 85974, SU 85946 86167, SU 85828 86153, SU 85946 86167, and SU 85828 86153, before flowing into the River Thames. Note; abstraction for flood alleviation itself is not a licensable activity.
