The Environment Agency has applied to The Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for 2 licences.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a transfer licence to abstract water from the Par St Blazey Stream at National Grid Reference SX 07505 53498 to transfer it to the River Par at National Grid Reference SX 07515 53503 without intervening use for the purpose of an eel pass.
The application is to abstract water as follows:

140 cubic metres an hour

3,300 cubic metres a day

1,200,000 cubic metres a year

All year.
At a maximum instantaneous rate of 38 litres per second.
The Environment Agency has also applied for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the Par St Blazey Stream at National Grid Reference SX 07497 53505 to support the above eel passage.
Further details of the proposal are: The construction of an enclosed elliptical culvert with an internal diameter of 1150mm wide x 750mm high to direct flow from the Par St Blazey Stream to the Par River to enable the safe migration of eel around the Par St Blazey Stream Pumping Station and construction of a small stop log weir within the Par St Blazey stream, just downstream of the culvert opening, to help redirect flow towards the culvert. This will comprise of stop logs of adjustable height to suit the prevailing flow conditions. At high to flood flows, the Par St Blazey Stream Pumping Station, approx. 70 metres downstream of the eel pass, will pump water across to the Par River, as currently operated.
