Details

The purpose of the rail environment policy statement is to:

  • set a clear direction for the rail industry on environmental sustainability issues
  • outline policy priorities for the future sustainable rail strategy, which was committed to in the Williams-Shapps plan for rail, published in May 2021

The policy statement covers:

  • traction decarbonisation
  • air quality
  • decarbonising the rail estate
  • waste, litter and graffiti
  • social value
  • integrated travel and modal shift
  • land use
  • railway noise
  • water
